Oscar-winning actress, icon, muse, AnOther Magazine cover star and now AnOther Guest Lover, Rachel Weisz will be selecting her favourite things over the next fortnight and sharing them on the AnOther Loves stream. As the cover star of AnOther Magazine Issue 21, the British-born actress appears in stills taken from a short film shot by Craig McDean with creative direction by David James and styling by Olivier Rizzo. The film sees Weisz on location in Red Hook, New York, her series of non-narrative micro performances inspired by postmodern dance legend Pina Bausch.
Taking time out from her packed film schedule (she has no less than eight major films in the pipeline two of which will be opening and closing the upcoming London Film Festival), from today, Weisz will share her all-time favourites, following in the footsteps of previous Guest Lovers Björk and Kate Moss. For her first love, Weisz has chosen the studio of her sister Minnie Weisz, photographer and curator, who uses her Kings Cross space, the Minnie Weisz Studio, as a showcase for her own work and that of other artists. Past exhibitions have featured installations by Caroline Collinge and Tom Foulsham, and her own photographs for 2010’s Reveal Festival, and her latest commission is ‘A Message to Kings Cross’, a billboard art installation on the road outside the studio. Here we talk to Weisz about what excites her about Minnie’s gallery and work, and her own favourite galleries to visit in New York.
What is it that you like most about Minnie’s gallery? Is there a certain time you like to visit?
I love how intimate and raw the space is and how Minnie finds obscure and original artists from all over the world and curates some fascinating shows. Her own work (mainly photography) is inspired and innovative.
How would you sum up Minnie’s work?
Passionate, eccentric, earnest and emotional.
What other galleries do you like?
The Whitney Museum and The Frick Collection in New York City.
